A Poem by Thayne Whipple

1492

Oct 12, 2015
"In fourteen hundred ninety two ..."
As one great poet wrote.
A thing occurred that I feel was
Of some historic note:
A fellow named Columbus did
Right of the charts set sail.
To find a route to China, thus,
He on that point did fail.
He happened on America,
As others had before.
But he did open up his mouth
And talked about it more.
Now as we mark another year
From that historic date;
The natives of this continent
His journey might berate.
But someone else was bound to come —
The continent can't hide.
You really can't go very far
And not with it collide.
