A Poem by Thayne Whipple
A Not So Ordinary View
Nov 19, 2015
The other morning when I woke
I did the help of Him invoke.
For comprehension I did pray,
To see the world a different way.
I did the help of Him invoke.
For comprehension I did pray,
To see the world a different way.
As deep within life's daily grind
I more than often myself find.
And rarely ever make the time
To out from under schedules climb.
I more than often myself find.
And rarely ever make the time
To out from under schedules climb.
And thus I travel through my life,
My calendar with nonsense rife.
My mind, however, blank is found
Where idle thoughts did once abound,
My calendar with nonsense rife.
My mind, however, blank is found
Where idle thoughts did once abound,
When I was younger and was free
From vain responsibility.
I took the time to stop and sit
And thoughts to wander off permit.
From vain responsibility.
I took the time to stop and sit
And thoughts to wander off permit.
As Alice in her wonderland
On distant planets I would stand,
Reflecting on the universe,
Or lines of Shakespeare did rehearse.
On distant planets I would stand,
Reflecting on the universe,
Or lines of Shakespeare did rehearse.
But somewhere ’tween a fool and sage
You reach a rather awkward stage.
Where fool enough to think you're wise,
The foolish things of earth you prize.
You reach a rather awkward stage.
Where fool enough to think you're wise,
The foolish things of earth you prize.
And hence in circles 'round you spin,
Convinced that you might someday win.
But rather soon you'll come to tell —
The end result: a dizzy spell.
Convinced that you might someday win.
But rather soon you'll come to tell —
The end result: a dizzy spell.
So if you have a moment free,
I bid you spend some time with me.
And let me share, of life, with you
A not so ordinary view.
I bid you spend some time with me.
And let me share, of life, with you
A not so ordinary view.
