A Tentative Peace

May 31, 2016
I'm sure that I would rather see
The earth in peace and harmony.
And notions of a bloody war
Be nothing more than ancient lore.
But in this world of great distrust
It seems that some, to kill, do lust.
And for all man as one to come,
We'll have to kill those vermin scum!
‘Though short of that, a good defense -
An S.D.I. might make them tense.
Or even just a gun or club,
A fleet of tanks, a trident sub...
I wouldn't want to use them though,
Just have them close to scare the foe.
That home and family be safe,
Should world tensions start to chafe.
Remember many men have died
That we in freedom might reside.
Thus to maintain this resolutely
I feel is our inherent duty.
And 'though I pray each night for peace,
I doubt that war will ever cease.
And so I hope that few will die,
As for each one, a tear, I'll cry.
