A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Aesop's Book Review (Aesop)
Oct 17, 2015
A certain man who wrote a book
Asked Aesop if he’d take a look.
Asked Aesop if he’d take a look.
“Please tell me in your own fine way
The brilliance that my words display.
The brilliance that my words display.
Is there a single page or phrase
That do your senses most amaze?
That do your senses most amaze?
Although my other works are great,
This surely is the best to date.
This surely is the best to date.
The genius of it shines right through…
But please, I’d like to hear from you.
But please, I’d like to hear from you.
Just how would you my book appraise?
Do I, myself, give too much praise?”
Do I, myself, give too much praise?”
...
The book was such a wretched bore,
Each page was worse than that before.
Each page was worse than that before.
So Aesop barely made it through,
Then said, “Good sir, I’ll say to you:
Then said, “Good sir, I’ll say to you:
“I think you should voice your acclaim,
As no one else will feel the same.”
---
Write that to what your heart is true,
Although your fans may be quite few.
As no one else will feel the same.”
---
Write that to what your heart is true,
Although your fans may be quite few.
