A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Choosing Sides (Aesop)
Jan 9, 2016
A hare was fleeing an attack
From dog who bit his legs and back.
From dog who bit his legs and back.
They both through wood and field did dart,
And never were too far apart.
And never were too far apart.
At times the dog would vicious snap,
Then later flowing blood would lap.
Then later flowing blood would lap.
The dog continued on his play,
And teased his weak and wounded prey.
And teased his weak and wounded prey.
The hare in desperation cried,
“Please dog, would you just choose a side!
“Please dog, would you just choose a side!
If playmate you desire of me,
I need to rest, so let me be.
I need to rest, so let me be.
Or if my death you really want,
Just end me now, and cease to taunt!”
Just end me now, and cease to taunt!”

True colors you should always show –
If loyal friend, or rather foe.
True colors you should always show –
If loyal friend, or rather foe.
