A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Contemplation
Sep 17, 2015
Along this stretch of beach I sit
That I may contemplate a bit;
O'er life and love and peace and war,
And calmness to my soul restore.
That I may contemplate a bit;
O'er life and love and peace and war,
And calmness to my soul restore.
For as my idle thoughts do soar
Now tempered by the oceans roar;
I wonder what's to come of me
And what, if anything, I'll be.
Now tempered by the oceans roar;
I wonder what's to come of me
And what, if anything, I'll be.
I query if true love I'll find.
Or if in loneliness entwined,
I'll wander ‘lone throughout my days,
A pris'ner in an endless maze.
Or if in loneliness entwined,
I'll wander ‘lone throughout my days,
A pris'ner in an endless maze.
I ponder how on foreign lands
Perhaps a gallant army stands
Prepared to fight, that some may live
In freedom, and their lives will give.
Perhaps a gallant army stands
Prepared to fight, that some may live
In freedom, and their lives will give.
I then can see the children play
On meadows green throughout the day.
And then in tranquil beds they sleep.
Their innocence the peace will keep.
On meadows green throughout the day.
And then in tranquil beds they sleep.
Their innocence the peace will keep.
I know the world does little care
About these thoughts that I now air.
For if a cause I do endorse
Or wish to change the world’s course
About these thoughts that I now air.
For if a cause I do endorse
Or wish to change the world’s course
I must not stay upon my shelf,
Rely on no one but myself...
However, now I think I'll stay
Upon this beach along the bay.
Rely on no one but myself...
However, now I think I'll stay
Upon this beach along the bay.
