A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Dark Ages

Nov 5, 2015
My thoughts quite often I do cast
Upon the rather distant past.
And I would like to make remark
Upon the famous Ages Dark.
An age of glory, brave and bold
With castles all arrayed with gold.
When knights with sword would prove the right
By showing forth their awesome might.
A maiden would not need to fear
With men in armor ever near.
But dragons fierce kept on the run,
As knights would slay them - just for fun.
But life in castles made of stone
Without a proper telephone
Would be a cause for great despair;
Cold and alone I'd shiver there.
No cars, no planes, no window panes,
The humid smell of must;
And standing out beneath the rain,
My armor'd surely rust.
And so I feel there likely may,
A reason to in our time to stay.
As from a more relaxed position,
I may watch knights on television.
