A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Discovery

Apr 19, 2016
I saw an item in the news,
That brightened up my face.
Our nation's still committed to
Discovery in space.
I don't know what is out there, or
Just what we'll likely find.
It might cost us a fortune, but
I do not really mind.
It seems that in the distant past
The people who did well;
Looked over the horizon - on
The past they did not dwell.
So here's to Cook, Columbus,
Admiral Peary, Richard Byrd,
Earhart, Armstrong and a host
Of names we've never heard.
