A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Goals?

Jul 21, 2015
Since my childhood they've implored
That I should my goals record.
And ‘though this counsel may be true,
At times I share another view.
But when I humbly counter back,
That a direction I don't lack;
They with me bluntly disagree
And hence my point they fail to see.
Although it's agonizing clear
After my argument they hear,
I in minority am found
As they dogmatic hold their ground.
So I'll attempt to clearly state,
In order that I may relate
With you the feelings which I hold
As I'll feel better when they're told.
A goal will do us little good
Unless we do all that we should
To reach it. And I think it's smart
To carry it within your heart.
As ink will smear and paper burn.
And will you likely oft return,
To ponder what you've written there?
And so this final thought I'll share:
‘Though you may pen a constant stream,
A written goal is still a dream.
