How Great Thy Love

Sep 20, 2015
They chained, then scourged and sentenced you
For being Son of God.
How vain and foolish are the souls
Who walk on earthly sod.
For hanging on the cross in pain,
You did not power shew.
But asked for their forgiveness, as
They "know not what they do."
How great thy love for mortal man.
How infinite and true thy plan.
As death for mercy didst thou pay
And for me down, your life did lay.
How great thy love I now can see.
Indebted then I'll always be.
How great, my Lord, thy love for me.
To save my soul and set me free.
The destitute, the murderer,
The righteous, wicked and impure,
Thou lovest all in equity.
And hope from sin they all will flee.
‘Though man dost lose the iron rod
And wander farther from his God.
In holy courts you sit above
And never failing offer love.
Then as a simple mortal I,
In wonderment do stand.
As I your love do feel for me,
The kindness of your hand.
I hope to one day comprehend
This gift of love you give,
That I might also love the world
And as you've taught me live.
For hanging on the cross in pain,
You did not power shew.
But asked for their forgiveness, as
They "know not what they do."
How great thy love for mortal man.
How infinite and true thy plan.
As death for mercy didst thou pay
And for me down, your life did lay.
