A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Loyal Pen

Jul 18, 2015
Oh pen, what tool of wonder thou.
With you I write your praises now.
'Though greater than the mighty sword,
You patiently my thoughts record.
How dull you must believe I am,
As rubble to a polished gem.
How crude my strokes with you I draw,
My aimless rambling, rife with flaw.
I do have pity for your plight.
For in another's hand you might
Great works of literature send
Or noble cause with strength defend.
But loyal at my side you stand
Prepared to follow each command.
Thus dutif'lly your ink you give;
The life blood which allows you live.
As senselessly I babble on
Your mission in this world, a pawn.
For 'though I know you'll soon run dry,
I force you write until you die.
