A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Motion
Jul 2, 2015
In constant motion, here to there,
By boat and train and now by air.
I can't imagine any need
And so to stop I humbly plead.
By boat and train and now by air.
I can't imagine any need
And so to stop I humbly plead.
I think it happened long ago.
Exactly when I do not know.
That with location discontent
They means of travel did invent.
Exactly when I do not know.
That with location discontent
They means of travel did invent.
And ever since, the problem grew,
So now I'll state my case to you.
Or, plead it, may be better said
As I do this situation dread.
So now I'll state my case to you.
Or, plead it, may be better said
As I do this situation dread.
At first 'twas simple I agree
When people wished the world to see,
Or seeking opportunity,
Or wanting somewhere else to be,
When people wished the world to see,
Or seeking opportunity,
Or wanting somewhere else to be,
They simply packed their bags and left.
And leaving friends a bit bereft
They forward trudged along their way
Until they found a place to stay.
And leaving friends a bit bereft
They forward trudged along their way
Until they found a place to stay.
But now they're moving everything.
They food and clothes and houses bring
From far off corners of the globe.
And this is what I wish to probe.
They food and clothes and houses bring
From far off corners of the globe.
And this is what I wish to probe.
So malcontent the world does seem
And fringing on the quite extreme.
They've started moving streets around,
And even large pieces of ground.
And fringing on the quite extreme.
They've started moving streets around,
And even large pieces of ground.
The whole idea is simply mad.
I'm hoping it's a passing fad.
The world involved in such a tizzy,
I'm feeling just a little dizzy.
I'm hoping it's a passing fad.
The world involved in such a tizzy,
I'm feeling just a little dizzy.
In constant motion, here to there,
By boat and train and now by air.
I can't imagine any need,
And so to stop I humbly plead!
By boat and train and now by air.
I can't imagine any need,
And so to stop I humbly plead!
