A Poem by Thayne Whipple
My Friends, The Dreamers
Jul 11, 2015
A world without dreamers -
I cringe at the thought.
Who scoff at the standards,
Put counsels at naught;
Who stare into space
All day and all night;
And whose friends think they're crazy,
And maybe they're right.
But I'll always love dreamers,
They're idols for me
And I dream to someday
A great dreamer be.
The arts and the science,
The planes and the trains,
Are all due to dreamers
Whom history proclaims
Had courage above and beyond
That of the call,
And made that which is great
Out of what once was small.
They thought and they sat,
Then they sat and they thought.
And they worked 'til one day
A discovery they brought
To a world full of skeptics
And dreamer beraters
Who laughed at our friends
The new concept creators.
But the dreams, they came true
And though say what you may,
The world's a much happier
Place now, today.
I cringe at the thought.
Who scoff at the standards,
Put counsels at naught;
Who stare into space
All day and all night;
And whose friends think they're crazy,
And maybe they're right.
But I'll always love dreamers,
They're idols for me
And I dream to someday
A great dreamer be.
The arts and the science,
The planes and the trains,
Are all due to dreamers

From Tchaikovsky and Bach
By whom great works were wrought;
Don Quixote of old
Who the great windmills fought,
Then Aesop the writer of Many a fable,
King Arthur who founded
The famous Roundtable.
There've been many a dreamer
By whom great works were done
And of course quite a few
Who were laughed at and shunned.
But the fact still remains
And is proven each day,
Which the annals of history
Most clearly display:
That while many may ridicule, scoff, and dismay
It's the dreamers who
Create the future today.

A world without dreamers —
Please silence the thought.
Who scoff at the standards,
Put counsels at naught;
Who stare into space
All day and all night;

And maybe they're right.
