A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Onward

Oct 22, 2015
The time has come, I think, at last,
To shed a tear and leave the past.
And onward trek on new found trails,
Old ties unleash, unfurl the sails.
For yesterday is in the past,
Tomorrow new, now forming fast.
And as the moon sets dim and pale,
The sun breaks forth, its rays unveil;
A brand new world of dreams come true,
Infinities of things to do.
A time of opportunity,
To be just what I want to be.
‘Though honestly I must admit
To leave the past hurts quite a bit;
I look toward the morning star
And know that ‘though I may roam far,
A little bit of now I'll keep
Within my heart amid the heap
Of long past trials and victories,
Of tears, and smiles, and pleasantries.
For what more could I really ask?
‘Neath morrows mid—day sun I'll bask.
A new adventure underway,
The heroes role for me to play.
And always forward without fail,
‘Though glimmers of the past I'll trail.
For I believe the quest of men
Should be to learn from where they've been.
