A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Origins

Sep 28, 2015
I'm told that years and years have past,
Since came a quite enormous blast.
And from this mess of strewn debris,
Our earth emerged victor'ously.
Upon which atoms' frolickings
Did random create living things.
Then as the planet did revolve,
These organisms did evolve.
And this did happen by degree
Until were born both you and me.
This process then will follow on
Long after you and I are gone.
This theory has remained intact,
And almost can be called a fact.
So while this all may be quite true
I have to share 'tween me and you,
I think there's likely much to learn,
As new facts may the old upturn.
And when we know the story whole,
God likely played a crucial role.
But as things stand right now, today,
There is one thing I'd like to say:
I'd like to think I'm more than chance —
A random bit of happenstance.
