A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Q

Oct 7, 2015
Q is the queerest letter you
Could ever hope to see.
And some think quite un-useful, though
It's handy as can be.
For if you wish to quarrel, quake
Or quit or quantify;
You couldn't really do it well,
Without a Q nearby.
A duck would be quite silent, as
A voice it would then lack
If it did not have access to
A Q to make a quack.
A queen could never quiver or
Feel queasy quietly.
And her power might be quashed although
Quite qualified she'd be.
You'd never see a quail hur-
Ry quickly ‘cross the quad.
And couldn't quarry quartz at all,
I think it would be sad.
But if you think the questions
On a quiz lack quality -
Without a Q the whole thing would
Just disappear, you see.
Though if quadruplets on a quest
In quicksand did just sink,
A quart of water, thirst would quench,
If they did take a drink.
I hope you liked my little rhyme,
I've one more tip for you.
A Q must almost always be
Escorted by a U.
