You see, before the mountains were;
Before the rivers ran;
Before the tall majestic trees
Gave shade to mortal man;
Before the rivers ran;
Before the tall majestic trees
Gave shade to mortal man;
Before the earth was shaped and formed
And beasts placed there to dwell;
Before the firstling raindrops did
On sun baked soil fell;
And beasts placed there to dwell;
Before the firstling raindrops did
On sun baked soil fell;
I lived and learned and prospered while
Along my Fathers side,
And yearned to gain his fullness, and
To measure with his stride.
Along my Fathers side,
And yearned to gain his fullness, and
To measure with his stride.
He loved me as a Father would.
Was pleased with my desire.
But cautioned that the only path
Was through the tempters fire.
Was pleased with my desire.
But cautioned that the only path
Was through the tempters fire.
I told him that the foe I'd fight,
And conquer valiantly.
He bowed his head and softly spoke:
"Then blessed shalt thou be."
And conquer valiantly.
He bowed his head and softly spoke:
"Then blessed shalt thou be."
At times when I'm discouraged, and
Feel that life's unfair, I
Recall my pre—existence and
The promise I made there.
Feel that life's unfair, I
Recall my pre—existence and
The promise I made there.
For though I travel far and wide
And sail o'er the sea,
I know my Heav'nly Father still
Is watching over me.
And sail o'er the sea,
I know my Heav'nly Father still
Is watching over me.
So I must always overcome
And further truth and right.
As always must I serve him with
My heart, strength, mind and might.
And further truth and right.
As always must I serve him with
My heart, strength, mind and might.
Then soon I'll see his face again
And bowing at his feet
I'll know that I am as he is
And for his glory meet.
And bowing at his feet
I'll know that I am as he is
And for his glory meet.
Then he will say "my son thou art,
And faithful thou hast been.
You've overcome all wickedness,
The slavery of sin.
And faithful thou hast been.
You've overcome all wickedness,
The slavery of sin.
And now back to my presence you
Have faithfully returned.
I'll place a crown upon your head;
A kingdom you have earned."
Have faithfully returned.
I'll place a crown upon your head;
A kingdom you have earned."
