A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Relics

Gleaming turret, sparkling tower,
Shewing forth a kingly power.
Walls of stone with bands of steel -
Bells from yonder belfry peal.
Shewing forth a kingly power.
Walls of stone with bands of steel -
Bells from yonder belfry peal.
Signs of strength when knights did reign
0'er the vast and open plain.
Clashing sword and lances crossed,
Leaving victims by as dross.
0'er the vast and open plain.
Clashing sword and lances crossed,
Leaving victims by as dross.
Muscles forged of steel and fire -
Of great deeds they did not tire.
Now they groan beneath the sand,
'Cross this gray and dreary land.
Of great deeds they did not tire.
Now they groan beneath the sand,
'Cross this gray and dreary land.
Relics of a bygone age
Force did rule o'er wisdom sage -
Once where chivalry did bloom
Now the briars, rust, and gloom.
Force did rule o'er wisdom sage -
Once where chivalry did bloom
Now the briars, rust, and gloom.
