A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Repentance
Nov 1, 2015
One night I lay upon my cot
In prayerful and absorbing thought.
But all my faults did fill my head
And hence for His forgiveness plead.
In prayerful and absorbing thought.
But all my faults did fill my head
And hence for His forgiveness plead.
"My lord, in my indignity,
I come before thy throne to plea.
’Though, true at times, a sinful son,
I ask that I, thou might not shun.
I come before thy throne to plea.
’Though, true at times, a sinful son,
I ask that I, thou might not shun.
And pray that t'ward thy shining light
I may with courage bravely fight.
That ever I might on thy path
Remain, in spite of Satan's wrath.
I may with courage bravely fight.
That ever I might on thy path
Remain, in spite of Satan's wrath.
Oh Father, to be meet I pray,
To kneel before thee on that day.
And that without reluctancy,
Thou might say; "son, reside with me."
To kneel before thee on that day.
And that without reluctancy,
Thou might say; "son, reside with me."
I then a quiet stillness felt
And knew that He in mercy dealt.
For as I drifted off to sleep,
A thought I heard, my heart did leap:
And knew that He in mercy dealt.
For as I drifted off to sleep,
A thought I heard, my heart did leap:
"Thy sins I have forgiven thee,
With Christ as intercessory,
For all the world's guilt did pay
That through repentance find the way."
With Christ as intercessory,
For all the world's guilt did pay
That through repentance find the way."
In sum, a message apropos -
For as He said, so long ago,
Now go thy way and sin no more —
And I shall wait thee at the door.
For as He said, so long ago,
Now go thy way and sin no more —
And I shall wait thee at the door.
