A Poem by Thayne Whipple

Sails on the Bay

Nov 27, 2015
Sometimes life
Becomes a little hairy.
Stress and strife,
More than just remotely scary.
Friction mounts,
I find trouble's underway.
So I run
To my secret hide-away.
Where I flee the daily grind
And might relaxation find -
To escape life's schrapnel fray,
Watching sails on the bay.
Watching sails on the bay
Blows my mundane cares away.
And 'though all that you may say,
Yes, forever here I'll stay,
Watching sails on the bay.
You ask me:
If I would like to travel.
Carefree be,
And let my mind unravel.
But I think -
If I were to leave here baby,
Out of sync
I'd be and absolutely crazy.
So complacently I sit,
And though selfish I admit,
I just think I'd rather stay
Watching sails on the bay.
Watching sails on the bay
Blows my mundane cares away.
And 'though all that you may say,
Yes, forever here I'll stay,
Watching sails on the bay.
I love you,
So I hope you understand.
That it seems
Things don't happen as they're planned.
So my dear
When I can't be by your side;
Remember me
And when you went out with the tide.
‘Cause I know you can't remain,
But I'm tethered by a chain.
And the price of love I'll pay.
Watching sails on the bay.
Watching sails on the bay
Blows my mundane cares away.
And 'though all that you may say,
Yes, forever here I'll stay,
Watching sails on the bay.
Watching sails on the bay.
