A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Son of Thunder
Aug 16, 2015
As witness of the light you shine
On earth as beacon true.
And no one since has written of
The Word as well as you.
On earth as beacon true.
And no one since has written of
The Word as well as you.
Your life was changed that day long past
When on the shore stood He,
And leaving nets and fishing boats,
You followed willingly.
When on the shore stood He,
And leaving nets and fishing boats,
You followed willingly.
Oh John, the one whom Jesus loved,
A son of thunder still,
Remaining with the wicked to
Administer His will.
A son of thunder still,
Remaining with the wicked to
Administer His will.
Oh John the one whom Jesus loved,
A son of thunder still,
A mission for the latter days
A greater work fulfill.
A son of thunder still,
A mission for the latter days
A greater work fulfill.
As with Him to the mount you went
And saw a cloud of flame,
A witness to His godly pow'r,
You watched Him tempest tame.
And saw a cloud of flame,
A witness to His godly pow'r,
You watched Him tempest tame.
Then faithful by His side as you
Went to Gethsemane.
A comfort to His mother as
They hanged Him on that tree.
Went to Gethsemane.
A comfort to His mother as
They hanged Him on that tree.
So when in banishment were sent
In chains to Patmos' Isle,
The heavens to you opened and
Upon you they did smile.
In chains to Patmos' Isle,
The heavens to you opened and
Upon you they did smile.
For when the angel with the book
Commanded you to eat,
Without a hesitation, you
Did obligations meet.
Commanded you to eat,
Without a hesitation, you
Did obligations meet.
Oh John, the one whom Jesus loved,
A son of thunder still,
Remaining with the wicked to
Administer His will.
A son of thunder still,
Remaining with the wicked to
Administer His will.
Oh John the one whom Jesus loved,
A son of thunder still,
A mission for the latter days
A greater work fulfill.
A son of thunder still,
A mission for the latter days
A greater work fulfill.
