A Poem by Thayne Whipple
The Aeroplane
Sep 29, 2015
Composed on a flight from Los Angeles to Amsterdam … or so they say!
I've seen the craft up in the air.
I've seen it on the ground.
I find it quite amazing, how
It seems to fly around.
I've seen the craft up in the air.
I've seen it on the ground.
I find it quite amazing, how
It seems to fly around.
They say they'll take you ‘cross the state
Or even o'er the sea.
They'll do it all quite gladly, for
A reasonable fee.
Or even o'er the sea.
They'll do it all quite gladly, for
A reasonable fee.
They load it up with people and
Of course their baggage too.
It must weigh several hundred tons
With all the gas and crew.
Of course their baggage too.
It must weigh several hundred tons
With all the gas and crew.
And then they drive it down the road
Until it starts to rise,
And onward, upward through the clouds
To vanish in the skies.
Until it starts to rise,
And onward, upward through the clouds
To vanish in the skies.
It's really quite intriguing, how
This hoax they perpetrate,
As I'm certain it's all fiction —
This illusion they create.
This hoax they perpetrate,
As I'm certain it's all fiction —
This illusion they create.
For to soar around the world in
A cylinder of steel,
Defies all basic reason, and
I won't accept it's real!
A cylinder of steel,
Defies all basic reason, and
I won't accept it's real!
I like to climb aboard them though
Although it's rather strange,
For when I take a ride on one
The scen'ry seems to change.
Although it's rather strange,
For when I take a ride on one
The scen'ry seems to change.
So let them play their little game
(Although it's all in fun).
It's often quite enjoyable
When all is said and done.
(Although it's all in fun).
It's often quite enjoyable
When all is said and done.
