A Poem by Thayne Whipple
The Light of Love
Jan 18, 2016
'Though fire may a fire fight,
More darkness will not bring the light.
More darkness will not bring the light.
A moonless night will darker seem
When turning off a flashlight beam.
When turning off a flashlight beam.
And flipping off another switch
Won't brighten rooms as dark as pitch.
Won't brighten rooms as dark as pitch.
Yet caves alone I'll dare to tame
With just a tiny candle flame.
With just a tiny candle flame.
It doesn't take a fire bright
To guide your feet through darkest night.
To guide your feet through darkest night.
As light unto the darkness brings,
The same is true with other things:
The same is true with other things:
To evil from the earth abate -
Do not attempt by spreading hate.
Do not attempt by spreading hate.
This lesson proven very well -
That love, alone, can hate dispel.
That love, alone, can hate dispel.
And like a spark can soon ignite
A raging fire, burning bright.
A raging fire, burning bright.
A global love can simply start
Within one humble beating heart.
Within one humble beating heart.
For small and simple things grow tall,
As you may easily recall ...
As you may easily recall ...
The Spirit witnessed God's great love
With just a lowly, little dove.
With just a lowly, little dove.
Inspired by:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
