A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Twisted Tree
Aug 6, 2015
Old Twisted tree
On craggy cliff, above the sea,
Warped by wind and constant storm
To this knotted, pitted form.
On craggy cliff, above the sea,
Warped by wind and constant storm
To this knotted, pitted form.
Young sapling, straight,
Within the forests's sheltered gate
Tall, unmarred one day will stand.
Thing of beauty on the land.
Within the forests's sheltered gate
Tall, unmarred one day will stand.
Thing of beauty on the land.
If left alone
Just one, past seige, the vict'ry own
For trials bestow the strength
To last the war’s full length.
Just one, past seige, the vict'ry own
For trials bestow the strength
To last the war’s full length.
But as a group,
Protected and not forced to stoop.
Both tall and true you grow,
But strength of battle do not know.
Protected and not forced to stoop.
Both tall and true you grow,
But strength of battle do not know.
