A Poem by Thayne Whipple
Undertow
Jun 8, 2016
I sat out on the sand a while,
And got a little hot.
And thought I'd take a little swim.
Of course, you say, why not?
And got a little hot.
And thought I'd take a little swim.
Of course, you say, why not?
I waded out into the surf,
And felt the current tug.
If I'd been in my bathtub, I
Would simply pull the plug.
And felt the current tug.
If I'd been in my bathtub, I
Would simply pull the plug.
But this was not a bathtub,
And I was headed out.
I would have found a desert isle,
Had I not turned about.
And I was headed out.
I would have found a desert isle,
Had I not turned about.
The undertow had caught me,
And pulled me with its might.
Now it took ev'ry bit of strength,
But with it I did fight.
And pulled me with its might.
Now it took ev'ry bit of strength,
But with it I did fight.
I won the battle this time.
But sprawleed out on the sand,
I vowed I'd warn my little friends
To stay back on the land.
But sprawleed out on the sand,
I vowed I'd warn my little friends
To stay back on the land.
And if you some day venture out
Into the mighty sea -
Please hold your mom's or daddy's hand.
This lesson learn from me.
Into the mighty sea -
Please hold your mom's or daddy's hand.
This lesson learn from me.
